Feticide- Nurtured By Hate Cassette
One time edition of 150 tapes.
It’s hard to overstate what a no brainer this release was for us. A certifiably sick death metal band made up of almost exclusively teenagers operating in our own city? We’d be truly stupid not to jump on this one.
Like most subgenres of underground music, death metal is experiencing a hell of a resurgence at the moment. As such, it’s somewhat hard to talk about it without succumbing to music journalist buzzword nonsense. We could use terms like “OSDM”, “slamming”, or “moldy” to describe Feticide, and they’d all be somewhat apt. But in actuality, “Nurtured By Hate” could best be described as a document of five kids taking their first step onto a path that is sure to quickly leave our dumb little tape label in the dust.
Sonically, comparisons to the current wave of Maggot Stomp death metal are unavoidable, but for our money, Feticide is already as good or better than many of the contemporary acts you might be tempted to compare them to. Where lesser bands would play it safe, Feticide does what all the best extreme music has done throughout history and pushes right up against the boundaries of their own limitations. There are technical flourishes, blasts, groove, and plenty of grime on display here, all filtered through the lens of young folks whose only real interest is playing the heaviest music they can manage. If you need a better selling point than that, go elsewhere.
